Can't play favorites so here's a story about Miss Skye

I needed to go through and organize the bazillion photos on our portable hard drive, and I found some pretty funny stuff in the various "sort me" folders. Somebody over the course of the last year and a half has stolen the point and shoot enough times to take over 300 pictures and some 40 videos.

This somebody of course would be my daughter, Skye. Her perspective of the world really comes into view when you go through her images, and it may be one of the most interesting, hilarious, and ridiculous things I have ever seen. But I appreciate the little peek into her world.

The views from the backseat of the car on the way to daycare. The videos of her and her brother (where she set the camera sideways so you have to watch it with your head tilted to the left) singing "I'm a gummy bear" a-cappela. Her pictures of the most important things in her day, family, friends, and dolls. Her story song video in which she made up an 8 minute song about mom being a little baby, and taking care of her baby, and the frog on Nolans head.

So while I go to compile the rest of it all into something to save for an opportune moment in her teenage years, here is a little sneak peek into Skye's digital media. I'll start by sharing all of her "self-portraits"

Why my son is awesome.

The last several days Nolan has been singing the following, his "Bwod Song":

We wock you, wiff bwod on yer face, big scwaypes, kickin yer can awl ohfer da pwace.

And I just now realized what it was from:

This kid is cool.

Retro fabulous

So today my husband decided was a good day to start the kitchen floor remodel. Step one was to remove the cheap laminate wood the previous owners son laid down before we bought the place. I knew whatever lay beneath the laminate would be a throwback to the 60s, but this was just not quite as bad as I was expecting.

If it weren't so badly damaged and we were remodeling this house for ourselves- as in not to be sold in a year to someone else- I might have considered keeping it. I mean, it has gold sparkles. Who doesn't think that is awesome?

Oh hi Cookie the dog!! You match the gold speckle laminate.
But back to the subject at hand, I have thought about it and there will be some new ceramic tile laid out in the kitchen, we aren't keeping this. Someday the future owner of this house may wish we'd have saved more of the original stuff from this house, but I doubt it. I mean, 60's/70's suburbia interior design is just always and forevermore going to be in the ugly category. Although this floor discovery does seem to make better sense of the orange sink that used to be in there. And the gold-speckle countertops, copper strap hinges on the cabinets- dang my new kitchen is looking good!

:)

Thanks Lisa.

Election day!!!

Well I already voted a whiles ago via absentee ballot. But today, we find out what actually happens. Maybe more like early in the morning I suppose, barring any complications- considering I'm already seeing the reports of voting machine errors.

I am wondering though- is it just because I am older and care now, or does it seem like people all over the country really do care more about voting lately? How about you?
